This weekend, Friday night lights are back! The FBU Top Gun showcase is back at Paradise Coast Sports Complex for the fifth year, featuring the best players in the country.
"We've chosen the best 30% from each of the regional camps," said Erik Richards, national recruiting director of the FBU All-American Bowl." "Only three out of every 10 at a regional camp qualifies to come down here."
Around 1,500 football players in middle and high school, including dozens of local players, are sharpening their skills with more than 100 coaches at the largest football showcase in the country.
"You get better and better every time you come to one, and the coaching is awesome," said Lely High School quarterback Carter Quinn.
"I will say how much experience the coaches have, years of college and NFL experience," said First Baptist Academy quarterback Brady Quinn. "And some camps, they don't touch you. They don't really set you aside and let you know what you're doing wrong. At this camp, they really help you get better."
The players go through several different sessions, including drills and techniques, 7-on-7s, and one-on-one competitions.
"We want to put them against like-talent because when they're fighting for those scholarship dollars," Richards said. "They're not just fighting for dollars against people in their city or their state. They're fighting nationally, colleges have a national search going on for a position and grad class they need to fill in. So that's who you're going against."
"[It's] definitely a place to become a better football player," said Barron Coller quarterback Niko Boyce. "Since I was in eighth grade, they've helped me grow so much in recruitment and just as a football player in general."
The camp also includes major scouting benefits. College coaches aren't standing by at the showcase because of NCAA recruiting guidelines in the summer, but you can spot a lot of scouts throughout the complex.
"On3, 24/7 Sports, QB Hit List, Rivals, ESPN, the UnderClassmen report, which is the strongest report that colleges use when they're finding athletes," Richards said.
At the end, invites will be handed out to some of the athletes to play in the All-American Bowl for the top seniors which will be aired on NBC 2, as well as the FBU Freshman All-American Bowl.
"I’m looking to make the freshman all-American game," Brady Quinn said. "To prove to them I am one of the best quarterbacks in the 2028 class. I want to get better at just being a quarterback, making better reads, and just overall improving."
