Cape Coral residents are noticing algal blooms in southeast Cape Coral lately.
Dead fish, along with the toxic, can be seen floating on top of the water.
"I would not dip my toe into it, said one resident," Peter Formica.
That may be an understatement. The fluorescent green might look pretty, but this toxin is not something you want to splash around in.
The toxins in the water are killing the fish you see on the surface.
The Calusa Water Keeper, Cody Pierce, says this is the third year in a row that Southeast Cape Coral algal blooms have occurred in tidal canals.
"The problem is the smell. When the wind is going in this direction, any of these back lanais you can’t sit in because it smells so bad," said Formica.
The waterkeeper says the bubble curtains are meant to filter the water. The organization has been testing the water but they do not have an update on when the next test will be.
