According to redacted records from the Charlotte County Sheriff's Office, former Detroit Tigers outfielder Craig Monroe is under investigation for sexual abuse.
The 47-year-old is accused of sexually abusing a woman for years, starting at the age of 12 in Port Charlotte, according to WJBK .
According to documents, the report was made on June 12 after the woman posted the allegations on social media.
Bally Sports Detroit and the Tigers released a joint statement confirming that Monroe's absence is linked to the allegations.
“Bally Sports Detroit and the Tigers are aware of the social media allegations and take them seriously,” the statement said. “As previously stated, Mr. Monroe has not been on the broadcast schedule and that will continue on an indefinite basis. We will have no further comment and any questions should be directed to Mr. Monroe.”
Monroe and his attorney also released a public statement, stating Monroe did not dignify these allegations when they appeared.
"Now that mainstream media has chosen to report this inaccurate information, Craig has no choice but to vehemently deny these claims," the statement reads.
Attorneys say they will cooperate with law enforcement and are confident that once this case is fully investigated, Craig will be cleared of any wrongdoing.
Monroe spent time with the Port Charlotte Rangers between 1997 and 1998, spending 130 games with the ball club.
The woman posted on social media saying the abuse carried on even after his time in Port Charlotte, according to reports.
The Detroit Tigers have reportedly removed Monroe from the broadcast booth for now, but it is unclear if he is suspended or not.
Monroe denies the claims made against him.
Charlotte County deputies are actively investigating these allegations.
