Hurricane Beryl is back up to a Category 3 storm on this 4th of July night, with wind as of 11 p.m. Thursday at 115 mph.
Beryl is again a major hurricane and is expected to gradually weaken for the rest of its lifespan.Beryl is 135 miles east-southeast of Tulum, Mexico and moving to the west at 16 mph. This forward movement shows a slight deviation from the west-northwest track, which has been pretty consistent throughout Beryl's trip through the Caribbean Sea.
After weakening over the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico, Beryl will strengthen slightly over the western Gulf of Mexico to a Category 1 hurricane again before coming ashore near the Texas/Mexico border, bringing heavy rain and gusty wind to this region.
Invest 96 is still "of interest" to the National Hurricane Center. It's following in the wake of Beryl, so there's shear and some upwelling of cooler water that will prevent this thing from doing much over the next several days.
NHC gives it a low end chance of development over the western Caribbean Sea and Bay of Campeche next week.
Nothing else is going on in the tropics for the time being.
