Tropical Storm Beryl still hovers over the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico, weakening after making landfall this morning as a Category 2 hurricane with 100 mph maximum sustained winds.
The mountains have caused Beryl to weaken quite a bit and look a lot more ragged on the satellite presentation this evening.
Beryl continues to track west-northwest at 15 mph. As it exits the Yucatan, the warm Gulf of Mexico will allow some strengthening, likely back to Category 1 by the time it makes another landfall in southern Texas on Monday. Rain from Beryl will spread over Texas, Louisiana and Arkansas mostly.
The Invest 96 feature, which the National Hurricane Center had as a low chance of development in the wake of Beryl, is no longer a candidate for development due to upwelling and wind shear from Beryl. So other than Bery, the tropics are quiet for the second half of the long holiday weekend.
