Tropical Storm Beryl continues to track northwest in the western Gulf towards the Texas coastline. The warm Gulf of Mexico is allowing for additional strengthening by the time it makes landfall along the Texas coastline by Monday morning.
The latest cone has Beryl making landfall roughly between Rockport and Galveston, Texas as a Category 1 hurricane.
There is an increasing risk of damaging hurricane-force winds and life-threatening storm surge along portions of the lower and middle Texas coast. Along with 8+ inches of rain in some spots, there is the potential for storm surge up to 6 feet across normally dry areas near the coast.
Additional rain from Beryl will spread over Texas, Louisiana and Arkansas.
There are no other areas being tracked for development at this time. So other than Beryl, the tropics are quiet for the second half of the long holiday weekend.
