Demolition begins on Monday at the Punta Gorda Waterfront Hotel.
The building has been in place for over 50 years, but it's now uninhabitable after Hurricane Ian caused severe damage.
The first phase of demolition is starting on the inside as crews are getting rid of all of the furniture and asbestos.
Graffiti covers the building along with boarded-up windows and cracks.
Some people NBC2 spoke with say this has been an eyesore, and they are looking forward to something new.
"Once they change that, it's going to brighten up everything. I'm pretty sure even the sea animals will be like, 'oh, cool, there's a new hotel now,'" Punta Gorda resident Omar Joachim said.
Right now, the city of Punta Gorda is working on designing site plans for the new hotel.
A date has still not been set as to when the rest of the demolition will take place.
