A Charlotte County man is facing several charges after an argument turned physical Saturday night.
According to 56-year-old Ronald Slagle's arrest report, he was involved in a domestic dispute on Lockport Avenue.
The victim told deputies Slagle got into his Dodge pickup and spun his tires as if he was going to run her over. She was able to get away in her car. However, she reports Slagle followed her toward Conway Boulevard in Port Charlotte.
The victim said the man was quickly gaining speed on her. She swerved into a yard to make the turn onto Conway Boulevard. Slagle was not able to stop in time and crashed into a stranger's home. Firefighters later spent hours using plywood and 2x4s to stabilize the home.
Neighbors report the suspect tried to walk away from the scene of the crash. Fortunately, no one was injured because the homeowner isn't in the state right now.
A witness on a neighboring street, out on an evening walk when this happened, reported she heard the victim come down the road begging for someone to call 911. She heard the victim say, "he's going to kill me." The witness describes the victim as petrified and shaking.
Slagle was arrested and charged with the following:
- Aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill
- Reckless driving damage to property or person
- Operating a motor vehicle without a valid license
- Leaving the scene of a crash involving property damage
When asked about what happened, Slagle's arrest report states he did not remember and did not want to speak with deputies.
According to the Charlotte County Clerk of Courts, Slagle bonded out of jail over the weekend.
