Three women were arrested after they allegedly stole nearly $2,000 worth of baby formula from a Walmart in the Deep Creek area of Charlotte County.
According to the Charlotte County Sheriff's Office, on July 1, deputies responded to the store at 375 Kings Highway. The Walmart loss prevention associate reported three separate baby formula thefts, occurring on April 4, April 14 and June 26.
On June 26, two women later identified as Tomarion Maloy, 19, and Yolanda Williams, 47, were seen on store surveillance cameras putting a combined total of $530.6 worth of baby formula in their bags and leaving without paying.
According to the arrest report, store surveillance video footage from April 14 showed Maloy entering the Walmart with Yolanda and the third suspect later identified Herbia Williams, 47. The trio grabbed several baby formulas, placed them all in a tote bag and left without paying.
Deputies were able to connect Yolanda to both the April 14 and June 16 thefts after a tattoo on her right hand matched that of one of the suspects in the video footage.
The investigation revealed that Yolanda, Herbia and Maloy were also suspects in an April 6 theft at a Walmart in south Naples. Thirty-six items of baby formula, a smartphone vlogging kit, a Fugi 10 film pack and a Polaroid camera were reported stolen, totaling $898.80, CCSO said.
Deputies were able to match Herbia's tattoos and Maloy's clothing to the other pair of suspects in the footage from the Charlotte County thefts.
On Friday night, deputies responded to the Deep Creek Walmart for reports of three women stealing baby formula. Yolanda and Herbia were stopped in the parking lot and detained.
Deputies say Maloy and another woman, identified as Evelyn Hernandez, 31, fled out of the parking lot in a vehicle. Deputies were able to stop the vehicle near a Culvers in the parking lot. The driver, Hernandez, refused to open the door for deputies and was apprehended. Maloy was also taken into custody.
Maloy, Yolanda and Herbia face theft-related charges. Hernandez was booked for failure to stop for a law enforcement officer and resisting an officer without violence. They were taken to the Charlotte County Jail.
