Crews are working to figure out how a fire started at a duplex in Cape Coral on Tuesday morning.
Firefighters say the fire caused thousands of dollars worth of damages in the homes off of Santa Barbara Boulevard and Southeast 28th Terrace, south of Veterans Parkway.
"Property damage-wise, thousands of dollars, the entire porch, roof, and ceiling has been pulled down to make sure fire didn't go up into the attic," Cape Coral Fire Department Battalion Chief Christopher Moore said.
Families were displaced due to the fire.
"Right now, we evacuated the whole building. Our intent is that, by the end of the evening, all occupants and all families will be able to go back into their units and continue to stay inside houses," Moore added.
Fire crews say two duplexes were evacuated, and both lanais were damaged. No injuries were reported.
The fire is affecting the northbound lanes of Santa Barbara Boulevard. The right lane is still closed.
"We expect Santa Barbara Boulevard to open in the next 30 minutes," Moore said.
