A former employee was arrested in connection to the armed robbery of a Shell gas station in Collier County Tuesday morning.
According to the Collier County Sheriff's Office, at around 6:30 a.m., deputies responded to the gas station at 7392 Radio Road.
Store employees told deputies a woman wearing a black ski mask entered the store with a gun and stole cash from behind the counter before leaving.
Deputies say that the employees believed the robber was Martha Contino, 48, an ex-coworker who had been recently let go from her job at the gas station. They said the robber resembled her height and the way she walked.
Camera footage showed the suspect running east from the store and across Santa Barbara Boulevard into an apartment complex on Santa Clara Drive. Deputies learned that Contino lived in the same complex and went to her home.
Contino reportedly resisted deputies and was arrested. Detectives obtained a search warrant for the home, discovering black clothing that matched what the robber wore.
A black ski mask, narcotics and a large amount of cash were found hidden in Contino's clothing as she was being booked into the Collier County Jail.
Contino faces multiple felony charges, including armed robbery with a firearm and grand theft.
