A well-known political consultant and former advisor to Presidents Bill Clinton and Donald Trump told NBC2 exclusively that it’s best for Trump if Joe Biden remains in the presidential race, despite some calls for President Biden to step aside after a poor debate performance.
Commentator Dick Morris visited Collier County to support JoAnne DeBartolo in her race for Collier County Republican State Committeewoman. He sat down for an exclusive one-on-one interview with NBC2 Chief Political Correspondent Dave Elias to discuss the upcoming November matchup between Biden and Trump, among other topics.
Dave Elias: Talk a little bit about how it was assisting Bill Clinton and Donald Trump.
Dick Morris: Bill Clinton was easier to work with. As a consultant, I was able to mold him a little bit more. Donald Trump isn't like that. He's like, 'This is who I am, take it or leave it.'
Dave Elias: Some Democrats have said Biden should step away. Do you believe he will or should?
Dick Morris: Should he? I don't know. That is up to him. Will he? No, I don't. I think the Democrats are going to stubbornly embrace Joe Biden. Biden is going to get worse. His dementia is not going to improve.
Dave Elias: Respectfully, there has been no evidence he has dementia.
Dick Morris: The American media told everybody that Biden was competent. Even in this interview, when I said he was demented, you challenged me.
Dave Elias: Again, there is no diagnosis of dementia. No doctor has said that.
Dave Elias: Do you think Donald Trump will accept the election results of 2024?
Dick Morris: Of course, he will, and he'll win it overwhelmingly.
Dave Elias: If this race in November has Biden coming out on top again, do you think we could see a repeat of the storming of the Capitol?
Dick Morris: First of all, it won't be true. Trump will win by a lot. Secondly, no one tried to storm the Capitol. It was a demonstration. People were expressing their opinion.
Dave Elias: So breaking windows is okay? Breaking into buildings, taking people’s items in their offices, that's okay?
Dick Morris: It happens! It's not a capital crime.
Dave Elias: It hasn't happened before. It was the first time we've seen it. It was unprecedented.
Now, Americans sit and wait to see what happens next on November 5.
