Christopher McEwan and other neighbors who live near Naples Avenue in Lehigh Acres, have their eyes wide open after $3,000 worth of tools were stolen out of a work van in their neighborhood on Tuesday.
"That’s really uncommon for this area that doesn’t happen around here, I never really heard about anything having anything stolen from here before," said Christopher McEwan.
Lee County Deputies say that the victim traveled to Naples to go to work at 6:30 a.m., only to notice the tools that were inside the vehicle were missing. There were no signs of forced entry, the report adds that the victim wasn't sure if the vehicle was locked.
"If that were me that would be a big economic blow to my family," said McEwan.
Because of this burglary, McEwan says he needs to make changes to help protect his family because this could happen to anyone.
"Now I have to be extra vigilant to make sure that all doors are locked, the cars are locked, garage doors are locked, everything is safely put away and secure before I go to sleep, said McEwan.
If you have any information on the stolen tools, contact the Lee County Sheriff's Office.
