Detectives are investigating after a dog was found dead, stuffed in a trash bag in a canal in Lehigh Acres on Wednesday.
Lee County deputies say they responded to a residence about an animal call. Deputies spoke with the caller, Crisalida Carver, stated said her father called her and told her there was a dead body in the canal behind the home.
Carver told deputies she looked at the canal and saw a trash bag sitting on the bank of the water. She took a closer look and said she saw paws coming out of the bag.
That's when Carver contacted the Lee County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies found the trash bag in the canal and attempted to remove it to investigate, but they were unable to.
Lee County Domestic Animal Services responded and helped remove the bag from the canal. Investigators scanned the remains for microchips, but none were located.
Deputies say they did not observe any obvious injuries or signs of neglect.
Due to the nature of the scene, detectives responded to the scene and took over the investigation.
Detectives do not know the cause of the dog's death at this time.
