The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating after a Sarasota County deputy's SUV struck and killed a bicyclist on Thursday.
The accident happened around 11:38 p.m. at the intersection of US-41 and Bay Street.
According to FHP, the SUV was traveling northbound on US-41 in the outside plane, driving through a green light.
The cyclist, a 22-year-old woman from Osprey, reportedly was traveling across the northbound lane of US-41 in front of the SUV.
The SUV, driven by a 25-year-old male, reportedly struck the woman, causing critical injuries.
The woman was taken to Sarasota Memorial Hospital, where troopers say she later died.
Troopers have not shared the identity of the victim at this time.
This crash remains under investigation.
