A man was killed after an incident involving a car in Cape Coral Thursday afternoon.
According to the Cape Coral Police Department, a man was working on his car while it was parked in the wet grass median of Chiquita Boulevard South near SW 19th Terrace.
While he was attempting to fix a transmission issue, the vehicle rolled backward onto him. The victim died at the scene.
The name of the victim has not been released.
The Cape Coral Police Department put out tips to keep in mind when working under a vehicle.
1. Ensure all car brakes are applied, including the emergency/parking brake.
2. Work on a flat and paved surface.
3. If you are using a car jack, ensure it is fully functional and properly placed underneath the frame. Jack stands are also recommended to ensure there are 3 points of contact holding up the car.
4. Test the car before going under by pushing hard against the hood and see if it moves.
