A man is dead after a violent confrontation with Polk County deputies. Sheriff Grady Judd said it all started when the suspect rammed into his grandmother with a car.
Deputies received a call around 9:30 p.m. on Friday to the Oakwood Estates neighborhood in Winter Haven. Detectives said the man got into an argument with his grandmother before hitting her with a car and knocking her to the ground.
Sheriff Judd said the man later drove directly at one of the deputies and crashed into their cruiser.
"As soon as he rammed our deputy's vehicle extremely hard, he jumped out, there was a confrontation, and the deputy shot the suspect, who was deceased at the scene," Sheriff Judd said in an update Saturday morning.
The deputy and the grandmother both went to the hospital. Sheriff Judd said he plans to release more details on the investigation on Saturday.
The Officer Involved Deadly Incident Task Force for the 10th Judicial Circuit is investigating.
