A great horned owl dies after being poisoned by what experts believe came from a rat trap.
According to the Peace River Wildlife Center in Punta Gorda, the great horned owl, with a brood patch, was rescued Sunday from a yard.
The owl died after possibly eating a rat that had been poisoned, experts believe.
The wildlife center said they see this situation too often, "We cannot emphasize enough how hazardous the use of poison in rat bait is to the wildlife that consumes the affected rats."
