On Monday, the Florida Department of Transportation and southeastern law enforcement agencies announced this year's week-long joint speed enforcement awareness campaign.
They are calling this year's campaign “Operation Southern Slow Down,” which aims to reduce speed-related crashes and fatalities on interstates and state highways.
"All of us are doing our part to be proactive, lead by example, through education, and we need the public's help as well," said Lt. Gregory Bueno, Florida Highway Patrol.
Even though the campaign is only a week long, efforts for safer roads go way beyond that.
"That doesn't mean come July 21, we all stop," Bueno said. "Traffic safety is important to every agency back here. We all share the same public roads, we all know the importance of making sure all of the motorists are abiding by the speed limit, putting phones down, wearing their seatbelts and driving sober. All those little things are big things because that's how we keep each other safe."
