Warrior Homes of Collier, a nonprofit organization providing housing and support for local veterans, has received a major financial boost.
An anonymous donor has pledged $500,000 to the organization, making it the largest donation in Warrior Homes of Collier's 10-year history.
Founded in 2014, Warrior Homes operates four houses: Alpha, Bravo, Charlie and Delta House. Alpha is for veterans recovering from substance abuse, while Bravo, Charlie, and Delta House are for seniors and other veterans. In addition to housing, they offer mental health counseling and educational opportunities.
“This donation is transformative for our organization,” said John Kistler, a board member of Warrior Homes of Collier. “We are so lucky to have people in this county who are generous enough to donate that kind of money.”
The donation will go toward paying off the debt for Delta House, located on Gulfstream Drive in East Naples. Kistler also mentioned that the money will help find more potential housing for veterans, with the next project potentially being Echo House.
"We're trying to just give people dignity, and it costs money, too," said Kistler. "So any kind of donations would be greatly appreciated."
Unlike many nonprofits, Warrior Homes relies on community support and does not receive government funding. Residents pay rent based on income, but no more than 30%.
Kistler says this donation brings Warrior Homes one step closer to ending veteran homelessness in Collier County.
