Charlotte County deputies arrested a contractor for grand theft. He is accused of promising to do some home repairs, but never getting them done.
NBC2 spoke to one victim who called the contractor hoping to get Hurricane Ian damage repaired by him.
Louise and Ric Goodwin started calling local businesses last year to fix their Lanai screen and Hurricane shutters damaged in Hurricane Ian.
They ended up choosing Harper's 1980 contractor Brian White because they wanted to support a local business in the area.
After weeks of waiting for White to come replace their screens and shutters, the Goodwins said they tried contacting White several times, but they never heard back from him.
"Well, 10 to 12 weeks went by, and we called," Louise said. "They actually sent an electrician to the home and put a little box into power the shutters. But that's the last we heard from them."
Justin Costa works for Harper's 1980, and he said what people don't understand is how crazy the cage industry is right now.
"People want their pool cage done, and they want it done now," Costa said. "Since Ian has come through, everybody's been on a waiting list. Customers are not so happy. This guy behind me, man, he's really trying. He's gone through some crews. They've messed up cages, and his name's on it."
Four other people, along with the Goodwins, reported White to the Charlotte County Sherriff's Office, which led to his arrest.
White reportedly bonded out of jail.
