Changes could be coming soon to Cape Coral residents' water-and-sewage bills as the city considers rate increases.
There will be a public hearing during the Cape Coral Council meeting where residents can weigh in on the proposed changes.
City management brought forward a resolution stating that rates and fees need to go up, but they are still determining the exact amounts.
The resolution aims to establish rates for water, wastewater, and irrigation services, set annual irrigation rates, and establish rates for utility customer deposits.
For the first three years, commodity and capacity rates may increase by up to 11% per year, except for the irrigation rate, which is set at $9.50 per month.
Additionally, a recent city study conducted by the city calls for a 5% increase in water rates, wastewater rates, and fire line charges. These increases are included in the resolution.
The resolution also calls for city staff to prepare an annual revenue sufficiency study for future adjustments due to increased construction costs and inflation. These rate adjustments are expected to support the city's UEP program.
Residents are invited to share their opinions at the meeting, which starts at 4:30 p.m. at the Cape Coral Council chambers.
