Cape Coral neighbors upset by overnight dirt dumping at home under construction

CAPE CORAL, Fla. —

Neighbors in one Cape Coral neighborhood are frustrated after truckloads of dirt are dumped at a home under construction in the middle of the night.

"There’s been a lot of traffic and a lot of construction in the area, so I feel like they really shouldn’t be out and about in the middle of the night," said Christine Wascholl.

It took place at a home under construction on NW 2nd Place in Cape Coral before 3 a.m.. The truck returned to finish the job minutes after 6 a.m.

"I did notice it little by little, but this morning, it is a bit bigger than it has been throughout the week," Wascholl said. "There’s been so much water there. Maybe I thought it was due to the road flooding earlier that could have been a reason for them coming in the middle of the night."

Despite Christine sleeping well last night, other neighbors ABC7 talked to off-camera were frustrated and scared.

The city of Cape Coral says dumping truckloads of dirt at work sites isn't allowed. Officials also say a noise ordinance only allows construction crews to work between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

"There’s a lot of things that happen in neighborhoods. People are sleeping, so to be courteous. I suggest maybe come during the day," she said.
