A San Carlos Park couple says a man attempted to enter their home and tried to take a nap on the bench on their front porch.
It happened along Winged Foot Drive and Phlox Drive late Friday night.
Shannon Owens and Jonah Stark say they were asleep when they heard a noise at the front door and saw their camera go off.
"I just thought it was a car driving by. But I hear my door knob start to rattle, and it just on and on. And I heard the screen door shut, and that sounded more odd," Owens said.
When she checked the camera, she said she saw a person lying down on the bench in front of their window.
That's when she decided to walk outside.
"He started to argue with us and tell us, No, I'm home," Owens said. "I started to get mad, and I was like, no, you're not home. And you have three seconds before I call the cops."
Surveillance video shows Owens on the phone, calling law enforcement. Moments later, the man walks away.
"Once I turned them on speaker phone, he basically started running, wobbling down the street," Owens said. "It was pretty scary. I had a feeling that you came from one of the bars that is close by around here, and you must've been from the bar. And that's like less than a mile down the road."
Other San Carlos Park residents feel uneasy hearing this happened close to their homes. Ray Pollard lives just houses down from this incident.
"Crazy. And makes me want to lock my door every night," Pollard said. "Stuff is getting crazy around nowadays, you know? So you got to start watching out a lot."
The Lee County Sheriff's Office is investigating this case and reviewing the surveillance video to determine whether a crime occurred.
