A group of people in Lee County teamed up to help rescue a stray dog who needed medical attention.
In May, a stray dog who was dubbed River started showing up around the Port Sanibel Marina in south Fort Myers, and he was surviving on scraps. Trapping experts Lori Briggs and Lori Berroa stepped in. They set up a camera and food, hoping to catch a glimpse of him. They saw the dog but struggled to capture him and began to get worried after also spotting a bobcat on the camera. After several attempts, they finally got River.
They took River to the vet and the Cape Coral Animal Shelter got involved, helping him get the surgery he needed. Briggs and Berroa graciously covered the initial costs of River's care and Cape Coral Animal Shelter covered the cost of his surgery.
Now, River is in a loving foster home getting the recovery and physical therapy he needs. The Cape Coral Animal Shelter said they're thrilled he's doing great and is expected to make a full recovery. Soon, he'll be ready for adoption!
If you'd like to help with his continued care, the shelter is accepting donations for him.
