On Friday, a Naples man was sentenced to six years in prison for DUI manslaughter after a crash killed one and injured three others in Bonita Springs.
James Nelligan, 39, reportedly crashed on Feb. 11, 2022, killing a 49-year-old New Jersey woman and leaving three others with minor injuries.
The crash happened on Bonita Grande Drive near Bernwood Farms Road when Nelligan lost control of the SUV he was driving and ran off the roadway while trying to make a turn.
A crash report shows Nelligan crashed into a tree with four passengers in his car, causing the 49-year-old woman to be ejected from the car.
She was pronounced dead on the scene. Troopers said she was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
Nelligan was charged with vehicular manslaughter, DUI manslaughter and three counts of DUI damage to a person/property.
Reports say Nelligan must serve a minimum of four years in prison.
