The Lee County Sheriff's Office and Grimaldi's Pizzeria are partnering to host the annual "Tip a Cop" event that benefits the Special Olympics.
Lee County law enforcement will serve coal-fired pizza to those who attend on Thursday, July 25, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno says it's a great feeling to help the community.
"When you help those that are in Special Olympics, it's just another level. This community is filled with great people, and when we come together, we do great things," Marceno said.
Part of the mission of Special Olympics is to give year-round sports training and athletic competitions in different Olympic-type sports for kids and adults with intellectual disabilities.
Special Olympics representative Don Payne said, "Putting on a Tip a Cop activity is fantastic for us because the athletes get to interact with Grimaldi's employees and people here to eat and they love that."
Grimaldi's Pizzeria is located at Bell Tower on 13499 S. Cleveland Ave., St. 201. in Fort Myers. General Manager Randy Bartoe says he looks forward to the event.
"Working with the Special Olympics, being able to reach out and assist individuals in something so spectacular creates a great energy in the community. We're just happy to be a part of it," Bartoe said.
