The murder trial of a former Florida ballerina accused of killing her husband started on Monday in Manatee County.
Ashley Benefield was in court on Monday for the first day of her murder trial.
The former ballerina is accused of shooting and killing her husband of four years, Doug Benefield, during an argument in 2020.
She is claiming self-defense and is using Florida's "Stand Your Ground" law as her defense.
Jury selection started after the judge denied the defense's request to delay the trial for another two months.
It is expected to last around two weeks.
Eva Benefield, the adult daughter of Doug Benefield, was in the courtroom on Monday.
Eva says she looks forward to the trial being over.
