Deputy Sheriff Christopher Taylor was just 23 years old getting his start in law enforcement when he was tragically killed in the line of duty.
Charlotte County Commissioners are expected to approve a resolution to rename portions of I-75 in his honor.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Cassandra Smith was drunk when she crossed three lanes hitting Taylor while he was performing a traffic stop.
Deputy Sheriff Taylor was taken to the hospital where he died.
Investigators say Smith's blood alcohol level was three times the legal limit. Smith is now serving 29 years in prison for DUI manslaughter and vehicular homicide.
The portion of I-75 runs from US-17 to Harbor View Road, which Charlotte County Commissioners are expected to rename as "Deputy Sheriff Christopher Taylor Memorial Highway."
Commissioners are set to meet at 9 a.m. on Tuesday to approve the resolution.
