A man received a prison sentence of 12 years and 3 months in connection to an armed carjacking at a condo parking garage in downtown Fort Myers .
According to court documents, on December 30, 2022, Fort Myers police responded to an armed carjacking on First Street.
The victim told officers that when he got out of his vehicle, a masked man pointed a gun at him and demanded his keys, cellphone and wallet. The victim complied and the man drove off in the vehicle.
The Lee County Sheriff’s Office joined the investigation and used their aviation unit to track down the stolen vehicle. The driver could be seen weaving in and out of traffic, going over medians and excessively speeding in his getaway.
The chase ended at a home in North Fort Myers, where they detained Zachary Pegg, 28, after a brief foot pursuit. He was identified as the masked suspect and arrested.
On March 27, Pegg pleaded guilty to charges of carjacking and brandishing a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence.
