As I’ve been cleaning and packing the last few weeks, I came across an old performance review from a previous job. It suggested I pursue “fewer features” and more hard story ideas.
As you know, I didn’t listen.
Four months later, I moved to Southwest Florida to start Stories2Share. The segment quickly became a front-row seat to the best of humanity.
I watched during the height of COVID-19 when Carlton Crabbe cooked for neighbors in need.
I watched during Hurricane Ian, when roads turned into rivers and strangers rescued strangers.
And just this year, I watched when a group of teenagers helped a dying man lift his arm and kiss his wife.
If I’ve learned anything from those stories, and the more than 800 others, it’s this: the people I’ve profiled are not the exceptions. I think they represent who we really are.
People are inherently good and when given the chance, most rise up and meet the moment.
The late Holocaust survivor Elie Wiesel once wrote, “I still believe in man in spite of man." And despite everything you see in the rest of the news, I hope Stories2Share gives you reason to still believe.
Time and time again, that’s what it did for me. And for that, I am forever grateful.
