A bear suffering from serious injuries, including a broken leg, was reportedly euthanized by FWC biologists Wednesday in North Naples.
According to FWC, an injured and lethargic bear was reported near The Club at The Strand golf course and Interstate 75.
FWC biologists euthanized the bear after evaluating the animal, which couldn't stand from its severe injuries.
It was later determined that one of the bear's back legs was broken, and the other back leg was injured.
The injuries, along with frayed claws, were consistent with a vehicle strike, FWC said.
FWC said bears are more active during the spring and summer months. Juvenile bears tend to disperse and leave their mothers’ home ranges and may be seen in unexpected areas as they travel in search of a new location to settle down.
