A Charlotte Correctional Institute inmate has been indicted on first-degree murder charges for the death of another inmate.
According to the State Attorney's Office, James Howze died from strangulation on Feb. 29 while alone in a cell with William Tulenko.
At the time of the incident, Tulenko had a pending murder case in Santa Rosa County for killing an inmate. He received a life sentence for that charge on June 7, according to State Attorney Amira Fox.
Howze was incarcerated at Charlotte Correctional Institute, serving a life sentence for murder, home invasion robbery and kidnapping. Howze also had a pending murder case for killing an inmate in Franklin County, Florida.
The indictment reads in part, “the defendant did unlawfully from a premeditated design to effect the death of a human being, kill and murder James Lindsey Howze, a human being, by strangulation."
State Attorney Amira Fox said based on the evidence, she expects officials to seek the death penalty on Tulenko.
