Students and parents at St. Charles Borromeo School are mourning the loss of Elaine Zimmerman.
Zimmerman was a teacher at the school. Saturday morning, people pulled Zimmerman out of the water at Englewood Beach after they saw her having some kind of medical issue.
One woman, who called 911, said water and foam were coming out of her mouth.
The Charlotte County Sheriff's Office said Zimmerman died at the Englewood hospital from a medical issue.
Katie Little's son had Zimmerman for sixth-grade language arts.
"He wasn't always that great of an English language arts kid, but he was just so inspired by her," Little said.
Mrs. Hizon, a school parent, said Zimmerman also inspired her son to work hard, have faith and believe in himself.
Little said she inspired parents, too.
"She always just had a smile on her face, and she was always so thankful," she said. "Anytime I could help her do anything or any of the parents could help her, she was always saying: thank you, thank you, thank you."
Parents said their students will really miss Zimmerman as the school year starts.
