Volunteers from several businesses in Fort Myers helped get Franklin Park Elementary ready for the first day of school.
United Way of Lee, Hendry, and Glades Counties held its annual day of action that brought together community members to support the newly rebuilt school.
Volunteers showed up from Fluke Reliability, Lee Health, the Lee Health Foundation, the Lee County Tax Collector's Office, Cypress Cove, Florida Gulf Coast University and Lee County Electric Cooperative. They unpacked boxes and built shelves, desks and tables. They also organized library books. It's part of the community partnership school program.
"Being a community partnership has greatly improved the life of not only our students, but our community and staff. They tutor kids, they help with academics, they help with resources," said Dr. Mia German, the principal of Franklin Park Elementary School.
The first day of school for Lee County is Aug. 12.
