A Fort Myers man pleaded guilty Tuesday to possessing a firearm as a convicted felon.
According to court records, on Dec. 3, 2023, JD Irons Jr., 37, fled from the passenger seat of a vehicle that Fort Myers police officers were trying to pull over. Irons was found hiding in a nearby apartment.
Police discovered a loaded handgun concealed in the glove box of the vehicle Irons ran from. DNA testing forensically linked him to the gun.
Due to Irons' lengthy criminal history, including over 20 arrests in Lee County, he faces a minimum of 15 years and up to life in prison.
Irons' sentencing hearing is scheduled for Oct. 28.
