The NBC2 Hurricane Tracking Team is monitoring a weak tropical disturbance in the central Atlantic that has a chance to develop into a tropical depression as it nears the Caribbean islands and the Bahamas late this week.
The National Hurricane Center has increased the odds of development to 60% in the next seven days, but two-day development odds remain at zero. If the system were to become a tropical storm, it would take the name Debby, but that's still a big if.
It's too early to say exactly where this potential system will go and what specific impacts it will bring to any particular location. However, high pressure in the central Atlantic will keep the system on a west-northwesterly course through late this week into the upcoming weekend. If we were to see any impacts in Florida, it likely wouldn't be until the weekend.
There is also still a decent chance the system won't be able to develop, but given the very warm water temperatures and the time of year, it's important to stay updated on the forecast.
