Deputies are investigating an incident on Bokeelia Fishing Pier after a pickup truck slammed into a golf cart Wednesday afternoon. Witnesses say the driver was fatally shot.
NBC2 viewer Andre Teyssier captured video of the incident. A pickup truck can be seen on the pier, hitting a shack before ramming into a golf cart and lifting the front of the truck off the pier. The driver then tried to get unstuck before they finally stopped.
Another witness, Joe Licini, said multiple gunshots could be heard while the truck was headed down the pier. He also said the driver of the truck was shot, adding that when deputies arrived, they broke the glass of the pickup truck to get to the driver.
The truck was then covered with a trap.
According to the Lee County Sheriff's Office , there is an active scene in the area, and all people involved have been accounted for.
