Governor Ron DeSantis has declared a state of emergency for 51 counties in Florida ahead of a potential tropical system. Invest 97L is anticipated to become more organized and impact Florida over the weekend or early next week.
The tropical wave, which, as of Thursday afternoon, has a 70% chance of developing into a tropical depression, threatens heavy rainfall and flooding across the state.
Counties affected include Charlotte, Collier, Lee, and more. The declaration enables state and local agencies to mobilize resources and coordinate efforts to mitigate the storm's impact.
Invest 97L is currently affecting Hispaniola, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands, with forecasts predicting up to 12 inches of rainfall over the next week.
