Deputies arrested a man after a chase led to him jumping into a canal in Lehigh Acres Monday afternoon.
According to the Lee County Sheriff's Office, a call was recieved about a burglary on July 29, at 4:13 p.m. and a suspect was described.
A Lee County Sheriff's Office deputy spotted a man who matched the description, Jarquel Starks, 19, on 14th St SW from Gunnery Road. The deputy reportedly asked Starks to step in front of his vehicle, to which he complied.
However, as the deputy attempted to put handcuffs on Starks, he immediately resisted, LCSO said.
Reports state that Starks then ran away on 14th St SW between houses and towards a canal bank.
The deputy chased Starks and attempted to tase Starks, but he jumped into a canal to get away.
The deputy ultimately grabbed Starks's arm as he continued to resist. After another struggle, Starks gave up and was placed in handcuffs.
According to the report, witnesses told LCSO they saw Starks pulling on the door handles of multiple vehicles and attempting to get inside a residence.
Starks was taken into custody and faces charges of burglary and resisting an officer. LCSO also found Starks had an active warrant for possession of a firearm by a delinquent.
