Need sandbags? Fire departments across Lee County are welcoming residents to come in and make their own ahead of the potentially bad weather this weekend.
South Trail Fire Protection & Rescue Service District says they have shovels and empty sandbags on site for you to drive in and make yours.
STFD asks that you make sure you are transporting the weight of the sandbags safely for the type of vehicle you are using.
Sand and sandbags are available at South Trail Fire & Rescue Station 63 located a 5531 Halifax Ave. in Fort Myers.
Matlacha/Pine Island Fire Control District also has everything you need to make your own sandbags. They have sand, empty bags and shovels.
All you have to do is drive to Matlacha/Pine Island Fire Control District Station 1, located at 5700 Pine Island Road in Bokeelia.
They also ask that you ensure your vehicle can safely handle the weight of the sandbags you're taking.
Sandbags are used to prevent or reduce flood water damage. If properly placed, they can act as a barrier to divert moving water around, instead of through, buildings.
TRACKING THE TROPICS
NBC2 meteorologists say the weekend forecast is shaping up to be very wet and breezy, and we'll need to keep a close eye on what could form into Tropical Storm Debby in the Gulf of Mexico.
You should plan on periods of heavy rain and storms both Saturday and Sunday. Localized flooding will be the biggest concern with 4-7 inches of rain possible.
