A Lee County deputy has been arrested after allegedly having inappropriate conversations and sending explicit photos to a minor.
The Lee County Sheriff's Office says that in May of this year, they received a tip about an adult male communicating with a 17-year-old girl.
Detectives investigated and identified the male as Bryon Haycook, 51, who was questioned and resigned shortly after.
Detectives say they continued the investigation and shared their findings with the State Attorney's Office.
On Thursday, a warrant was reportedly issued for Haycook for transmission of material harmful to a minor.
The warrant states, "On May 6, 2024, In Lee County, Florida, Byron Scott Haycook, did send material harmful to minors, to wit, a picture of his exposed *explicit*, to a subject known by Haycook to be a 17-year-old minor female, as stated in their direct message communication..."
Reports say Haycook turned himself into the Lee County Jail the same day the warrant was issued.
“Nobody can hide behind our badge, they will be held accountable. These accusations are disturbing, especially when it involves one of your own. I hold my family members to the highest standard and I will not tolerate any less," Sheriff Carmine Marceno said. "Former deputy Haycook’s actions do NOT reflect the values of the Lee County Sheriff’s Office. This investigation is ongoing and we will continue to work with our partners at the State Attorney’s Office to see the answers for these charges."
