There are 10 days until the start of the school year for Lee County School District students. Teachers were welcomed back into their prospective schools to get their rooms ready for the students to start class on Aug. 12.
One of the teachers NBC2 spoke to is Ms. Sage. She said she wanted to be a teacher her whole life and she interned here at North Fort Myers Academy of the Arts last year and is thrilled to be setting up her room this year.
"I am super excited. I am in teacher-brain mode. I can't really focus on anything else until my room is ready," Sage said.
Sage is emptying bags and boxes to make the classroom look like a second home for her students.
"I have wanted to be a teacher my whole life. It's just been in the back of my mind when I grow up, I am going to be a teacher and I'm finally here," Sage said.
Sage will be a second-grade teacher. She says she can't wait to meet her new students and already has the calendar set for their arrival.
"All of my kids are going to make their own little leaf and stick it on the tree and it will change for the seasons," Sage said.
Wendy Farina is a first-grade teacher who has her little home away from home just down the hall from Sage.
"The new teachers are super excited. The veteran teachers are still excited," Farina said.
The school and district say they are excited for a fresh start and more teachers to help educate the students of Lee County.
