Fort Myers Beach residents cannot seem to catch a break.
Debby spared no remorse when it came to flooded streets, homes and businesses. For some homeowners, it feels like a never-ending cycle of clean-up.
On Monday, NBC2's Sarah Metts saw a Facebook post asking for extra hands to help Bruce and Denise Canedy at their home on Bayview Avenue.
"I love the beach, I love living here, I love my house, but I'm tired," said Denise Canedy.
Debby brought about 2 inches of water inside the first floor of the Canedy's home.
"It wasn't flooding from the gulf; it was all rainwater," said Bruce Canedy.
Friends came to help the Canedy's with their clean-up efforts.
"I used to have a lot of pride, but I've learned not to have so much anymore," Denise said. "You do need help, you do need your friends, and they will be there for you."
But even with help and friends, it doesn't take away from how difficult it is to continue taking on damage from storms.
"I don't know how the people have the tenacity, I guess, to continue doing this," Denise said.
When asked if the work is worth it, the Canedy's had the same answer.
"I've thought that, but ya know, this is my island along with everybody who lives on it, and we just love it here," Bruce said.
