Cape Coral police arrested a man after he allegedly hit an officer's cruiser while under the influence Sunday morning.
Luis Rene Viltre Mulet, 28, reportedly hit the cruiser around 2:17 a.m. on Santa Barbara Boulevard in Cape Coral.
While the officer was sitting inside her patrol car with rearer emergency lights activated, Viltre Mulethit her from behind. She made contact with Viltre Mulet, who she said had glossy eyes.
Viltre Mulet reportedly started reversing his car before coming to a stop. The officer told him to get out and sit on the sidewalk.
The officer said Viltre Mulet was unsteady on his feet and stumbled from his vehicle to the sidewalk.
Just before the crash, the Cape Coral Police Department reportedly received a call from a witness who said the same SUV struck a tree several times.
The witness followed the SUV and watched it drive in the wrong lanes before correcting itself, according to reports.
Officers say he a field sobriety test, and he did not pass.
Viltre Mulet was reportedly arrested and taken to the Lee County Jail where he was charged with:
- One count of DUI
- Three counts of DUI with property damage
- One count of hit-and-run
