The city of Punta Gorda closed dozens of streets in the historic district on Monday afternoon, due to flooding from Hurricane Debby.
Road closures included:
All side streets between E. Olympia and E. Marion from US 41 to Cooper Street.
Most side streets between W. Marion and W. Retta Esplanade. E. Olympia (east of Nesbit) E. Marion (west of Cooper until US 41).W. Marion (west of Gill St.)
More than a dozen streets were submerged in over a foot of water, making them impassable for hours. Most of the water receded on Monday evening, and streets were reopened.
