Olympic canoeist, and Cape Coral, Florida resident, Fernando Jorge was eliminated from the Men's Canoe Single 1000m Sprint on Wednesday morning.
Jorge first competed at 5:50 a.m. in the second heat where he finished in third place with a 3:54.90 time which was enough to qualify for the quarterfinals.
In the quarterfinals, Jorge posted 4:06.63 1000m time - ultimately eliminating him from the competition.
On the positive side, Jorge has previously won gold medals in Rio and Tokyo. On Wednesday, he represented the IOC Refugee Olympic Team in the Men's C-1, 1000-meter Sprint.
25-year-old Jorge’s journey has been challenging . He left Cuba in 2021 due to personal issues, resettling in Miami before moving to Cape Coral.
His robust training regimen includes a 10-kilometer paddle in Cape Coral canals, gym sessions, and additional canoe training, five days a week.
The Cape Coral community has shown overwhelming support for Jorge.
