The city has decided to purchase the old Cape Coral Golf Course during Wednesday's meeting.
It used to be a city gem once upon a time, but there has been nothing but overgrown grass and trees for nearly a decade now.
The city has tried to purchase the 175 acres of land over the years and this year seems to be the time of new ownership.
Cape Coral obtained an appraisal and began negotiations with the property owner once again.
The goal is to create an oasis of some sort with restaurants, outdoor cafes, and or green spaces and parks.
NBC2 spoke with people who live along Palm Tree Boulevard who say the reason they bought there in the first place was because of the golf course.
NBC2's Mercedes Martinez asked residents what they would like to see done to the area and one thing they don't want is more condos.
"It has to stay as a park or golf course. It's front situated in between the walk-through trailer that you can take your dog and your family and there is, a lot there. But right now you cannot," Cape Coral resident Shohreh Durkin said.
Residents say there has been a lot of wildlife living in the area, to the point where they fear for their pets because of predators.
