A former Lee County deputy has been arrested after allegedly shooting at a jewelry store from his truck and speeding away.
On June 30, deputies say they responded to an alarm activation at Gold Forever Jewelry in Lehigh Acres. Deputies say they located a broken glass door and a bullet casing.
Detectives viewed surveillance footage where they say they saw Michael Soto, 37, firing shots from his truck toward a jewelry store before speeding away.
During the investigation, detectives were able to match the truck seen in the footage to the one Soto owned.
On July 2, Soto was reportedly brought in for questioning. LCSO says he resigned that day.
Detectives say they worked with the State Attorney's Office to get a warrant approved for Soto's arrest.
On August 6, deputies say Soto turned himself into the Lee County Jail.
Soto is charged with discharging a firearm from a vehicle and shooting a deadly missile into a public building.
Soto was hired by the Lee County Sheriff's Office on November 19, 2018. He was assigned to the corrections bureau at the time of his resignation.
