Fort Myers Beach town leaders were thinking about the idea of adding tolls at the Matanzas Pass Bridge and Big Carlos Pass Bridge to reduce traffic, but now that won’t be happening.
You probably have found yourself sitting in traffic on San Carlos Boulevard before trying to get over the Matanzas Pass Bridge.
Especially during morning and afternoon rush hour traffic. That's why town councilwoman Karen Woodson brought up the idea of adding tolls to reduce traffic.
The idea was quickly put to bed at this afternoon's town council meeting. Councilwoman Woodson the idea didn’t go very far after receiving a letter from county attorneys.
According to Florida statute for tolls, there won’t be any coming to Fort Myers Beach anytime soon.
After working with the town manager and county manager, the research team found it's impossible to put a toll on the Matanzas Pass Bridge since it's just being repaired and not fully replaced.
They also found they're too late to ask to put a toll on the Big Carlos Pass Bridge since the money to rebuild it has already been secured and construction has already started.
